Making Your Home Pet-Safe
Making Your Home Pet-Safe
Look around your home. Seems pet-safe, doesn’t it?
What a different perspective! Not so pet-safe now is it?
Dangers everywhere.
- See those appliance and light cords? Can you say electrocution? All it takes is one good bite.
- See the socks or other article of clothing you left laying around? I have known more than one dog to have an obstruction and spend the night at the vet getting operated on.
- See those household cleaners and detergents left in partially open cabinets? Poison! Consider child proof latching those doors to make it pet-safe.
- Look at the garbage can. Foods and scraps can be toxic as well. Teach your dog not to even smell the trash can! No mess and no emergencies.
- Taking vitamins or some sort of medication? Make sure you do not drop them. If you do, pick them up. Medications can be poisonous.
- Common household items like string, coins and rubber bands left lying about could potentially choke or strangle your dog or get stuck in their intestines so make sure these are put away.
- Make sure the toys you buy your dog are adequate. Always watch your dog when they are playing with their toys and be careful of stuffed toys with squeakers and plastic eyes. Keep those golf balls and other small balls well out of reach. These are all choke hazards.
Basically making your home pet-safe means taking the same measures as you would with your small child. Make sure you keep your home pet-safe and always look at things from your pet’s perspective.
